about me
bigsmash
This is my progress blog for a personal project I'm calling bigarch. I love playing around with linux environments and I've been really interested in tiling window managers so I've decided to overdo it with this project.
The project
bigarch
This project is an Arch Linux setup using the CachyOS kernel and v3 repositories wrapped in a Hyprland environment that I can rely on every day. This project is meant to challenge me so I've packed on a lot to learn.
On top of that, I wanted to have detailed documentation of each step of the process. Thus, this website idea was born because there's probably someone out there who would be interested in the journey.
Each week I write up what I worked on, what broke, and what I learned along the way.
The mindset going into this project is to take what I love, what I want to use, and what will be usuable on a daily basis to create a user experience that I will enjoy. I've always loved computers, but over the years they've just become a thing I have and not something I love to have. I want to really enjoy using my computer again, and this project came from that simple idea.
Now, I can't help myself sometimes and I try to jump into the deep end of things as quickly as possible. I could simply install all of these things and just be done with it. I could have it up and running over a lengthy Saturday with some fiddling on Sunday. But fuck that, I want to really sink my teeth into this. I want to make this setup my own, which means I'm going to have to learn a lot and break a lot of things. I want a project to be proud of, so I need to embrace that part of myself that wants to jump into the deep end immediately.
